a portrait is an artistic representation of a person which could be shown through a photo, painting, sculpture. by using the face and body language, you can create a mood of sadness, happiness, anger etc.



i chose this photo because of the expression of the man. the character played by this actor is known to be a cynical doctor with a low tolerance for other people, which is conveyed through the way he is almost frowning as if slightly impatient or agitated.





this photo was taken by yousuf karsh. to get this expression from churchil, he took away his cigar which caused anger and made Churchill appear strong and stable. this was an influential stance for a politician as it portrays the traits expected from someone who is running a country.





this photo shows Amanda Lepore. she is a transgender woman who portrays the conventional beauty standards of modern society. she is thin, white skinned with light, styled hair, perfect makeup and she bares a resemblance to Maralyn monroe, who was a very influential woman.

to maintain this glamorous look, she must spend hours on nails, hair, makeup and accessories which would also cost a large amount of money. this shows the extremes that people will go to to look and feel how they want to.

she portrays the people as strong and powerful. the young girl in this looks as though she has dirt on her face and her hair is blowing in the wind. this could represent the feeling of being in a storm. her expression in this shows her as being calm and unbothered by this which makes her appear strong. the photo on the right shows two of the x men. they look like old friends by the way they both share the same expression.

in these photos the people have emotionless expressions which means you focus more on the face of the people rather than the emotion of the photo. this makes the photos more subjective

this photographer uses provocative themes in his photos. the piano being on fire could symbolise how she feels careless and destructive or powerful. she could also be a musician.

this photo shows a teenager who is stood with his hand on the back of his neck and is looking straight down the lens. this body language shows confidence and makes him appear self assured. his facial expression appears blase and almost disinterested, as if he has somewhere else to be. there are a few hairs out of place that drop in front of his face.
